Axis Ascent and Best of Summit 2018

One of our passions here at Axis is to be involved in our local community.  Our staff love this special place in the Colorado Rocky Mountains where we get to live, work and play.  We are thrilled to help others get out and enjoy it too.

We work with our clients, of course, but we also support local athletes and sports programs, including: Summit Nordic Ski Club, High Country Soccer Association, Cycle Effects, Summit Youth Hockey, and Snow Tigers Football. In addition, we provide free baseline concussion screenings and education to kids participating in local sports programs and our staff have logged over 300 volunteer hours this year alone in both Summit and Eagle counties.

One of our goals is to build lasting and personal relationships with our patients and community.  This is one of the reasons we host two hiking events each year: The Axis Plunge (Eagle County) and the Axis Ascent (Summit County). These two hikes can be challenging but are also a fun chance to connect with our current and former patients.  Most importantly, these hikes inspire us when we see our patients back, doing the things they love. It reminds us of what we can accomplish if we work together!

In September, we hosted our Third Annual Axis Ascent and it was extra-special.  Under blue skies, warm weather (it snowed the past 2 years!) and the peak of color, an impressive group of 50+ people hiked the 1.8 miles to gather on the deck of The Black Mountain Lodge at Arapahoe Basin. The personal triumph of the day goes to Steve, who made the trek, despite a rare disorder that significantly impairs his balance. With help and encouragement from Kristina and Connor, Steve’s accomplishment created an emotional and inspiring experience for us all.  It reminds us to never underestimate the impact that we can have on someone else’s life! In all, 22 people hiked from the lodge up to the top of Lenawee at 12,472 ft, and 11 of those people continued to The North Pole Summit at 13,050 ft. Congratulations and thank you to everyone who came out for the Axis Ascent.  We look forward to next year’s climb.

Our community is so important, because it impacts not only our business, but us personally. We would like to thank Summit County for voting us #1 in the Best of Summit poll for the third year in a row!  We look forward to serving our community, providing the best care for our patients and helping them get back outside to do what they love, for many more years to come!  Our community has been amazing and has created an opportunity for us to do what WE love, and we will continue to give back in any way we can!
