Every year, we host two events to celebrate the hard work, recovery, and successes of our patients from the past the year: the Axis Plunge and the Axis Ascent. We figure, what better way to celebrate, than to challenge ourselves and enjoy the mountain paradise we call home? These events are full of laughter, support, and cheer-leading each other as we all rise to meet our own personal challenges. Sometimes, it can include some truly moving moments (and even some tears of joy), like last year’s Ascent with our patient, Steve. Most importantly, these events always lead to a sense of personal empowerment and memories to last a lifetime. These truly are our favorite pair of events of the entire year.
We hope that you, your friends, and your families, can join us for the 2019 Axis Plunge or the Axis Ascent!

The Axis Plunge: Sat, Sept 7
Join your Eagle County Axis staff, as we hike out-and-back on the challenging Stone Creek/Paulie’s Plunge Trail via the Eagle Vail Trail. Paulie’s Plunge is 1.9 miles one-way, and gains almost 1,400 ft of elevation as we follow Stone Creek up through a beautiful aspen grove. The trail grade steadily increases as we climb, until we finally reach the top, and enjoy the plunge all the way back to the valley floor. Axis will provide lunch to participants at the Eagle Vail Pool afterward! This trail has special significance for us, as we volunteer annually to maintain it through the Eagle County Adopt-a-Trail program.
9:00 am: Hike Begins. Meet at Eagle Vail Pool
11:00 am: Lunch and Celebrate at Eagle Vail Pool

The Axis Ascent: Sat, Sept 14
Join our Summit County Axis staff, as we take on Arapahoe Basin! Like previous years, we will have two groups leaving the base area at two different times. One group will take on the climb to Black Mountain Lodge (1.8 miles, 750ft elevation gain) to enjoy the mountain scenery. The other group will take on a tougher challenge, heading all the way to the summit before descending to meet the other group at Black Mountain Lodge. The climb is tough (2,270 ft elevation gain), but the spectacular views of the peaks along the Continental Divide will make all the sweat worth it! Axis will be providing lunch to all participants on the lodge deck. Option to ride the chairlift back down to the base area afterwards.
8:30 AM: Summit Group meet at A-Basin parking lot
10:30 AM: Black Mountain Lodge Group meet at A-Basin parking lot
12:00 PM: Both groups meet for lunch on Black Mountain Lodge deck
