Say hello to John or “Jah” Spriggs—a world-class skier, professional fisherman, and lifelong Colorado local. Having started on Vail Mountain over 35 years ago, Jah’s love for the snow hasn’t faded; if anything, his passion for the mountains has only expanded into new territories.
While Jah is renowned for his legendary “pillow skiing” and backcountry prowess, he has also become a staple in ski cinema. In addition to his classic roles in Here After and The Book of Pow (which earned him a Powder Magazine Powder Poll nomination), Jah has continued to produce high-level content:
“Must Be Nice” (2021/22): A deep dive into Montana’s backcountry that showcased Jah’s signature style while exploring the grit and recovery behind the professional athlete lifestyle.
Longevity in Sport: Jah is celebrated in the industry for his resilience, having navigated the evolution of freeskiing from the early X Games era to modern backcountry exploration.
When the snow melts, you’ll find Jah on the river. He picked up a fly rod at age 10 and has since turned that passion into a profession, serving as a professional fly fishing guide on Colorado’s legendary rivers. He calls skiing and fishing his “ying-and-yang”—the high-octane energy of the mountains balanced by the presence and focus required on the water.
Jah has recently expanded his local expertise into Real Estate, helping others find their own “dream home” in the Colorado mountains he knows so well. Whether he’s guiding a client through a river or a real estate closing, Jah brings the same drive that made him a pro athlete.
With a career built on “sending it,” Jah has undergone multiple surgeries over the years. His journey back to health has been supported by the team at Axis Sports Medicine in Silverthorne. Thanks to dedicated PT and strength training, Jah continues to maintain the mobility needed to stay on his skis and in the river.
